What is a horseshoe? What does a horseshoe do? Are there any horse socks? Did I just post Ep. 10 and then immediately post Ep. 11? Is anyone listening to me?

We’re at Ep. 11. If you look back to our first episode, you’ll find it was a heavy dubstep mix, just like episode 11 is. Ep. 12 will have similar genres to Ep. 2 and so on, so you know what to expect.

Ep. 11 blends together some regular dubstep with some on the heavier side as well as the more melodic side. Put on your headbanging neckbrace and get to it.

Ryse Radio Ep. 9 is all about the laidback side of EDM. This hour-long tropical house focused mix is ideal for kicking back by the pool when you need some lighter listening. Viceroy and JackLNDN are great examples of this style and their tracks on this mix showcase their range within the sub-genre. It also includes a few songs that we highlighted before like “One Kiss” by Calvin Harris and Dua Lipa, “Chasing You” by Airwolf, and the Jai Wolf remix of Mocki’s “Weekend”. “Bout U” has one of the most satisfying second drops imaginable. The first drop is borderline false with the chopped up synths not giving the full, powerful effect. The minimal first drop is what makes the second so, so satisfying as it fills in the gaps that you audibly wanted the first time around. The chorus is so smooth and a great juxtaposition to the slow verses. Overall, the track is a good blend of chill and driving which is quite a difficult effect to pull-off. Now go ahead a take a listen for yourself.

What stands out the most about Gryffin’s productions are that they share many elements in terms of structure and design with other artists you’re familiar with, yet he always manages to make the songs uniquely his own. “Tie Me Down” is no different. With a serene vocal performance from Ellie Duhe and smooth guitar rifts (a Gryffin staple), this song is expressive and emotive, yet also surprisingly relaxing. Feel free to put this one on repeat.
