Off of Illenium’s newest album Fallen Embers, “In My Mind” showcases a stellar collaboration between the emotional “sad boi” style Illenium is known for with Excision’s intense, heavy-hitting dubstep drops. HALIENE, excellent as always, adds her talents to yet another top EDM track. “In My Mind” is one of the heavier songs from the album which featured many previously released songs like “Paper Thin”, “Hearts On Fire”, “Nightlight”, “First Time”, “Sideways“, and “Heavenly Side”. Illenium has been putting out new tracks consistently over the summer and recently debuted “Take You Down” at a festival just a few weeks ago with its official release today. This song is very personal to him as he wrote it about his previous heroin overdose and the impact that his addiction had on his family, in particular, his mother. He put out this statement with the track:

The most interesting part of this song is that the vocals are actually from his friend Tim James, pitched up making them sound like a woman’s voice.

Song of the Day: Gold (Stupid Love) – Illenium & Excision

The new Illenium and Excision collaboration just dropped this morning and it is some of what the best the two artists have to offer. Featuring vocals from Shallows, “Gold (Stupid Love)” starts with a dark guitar riff, typical of Illenium. Moving into the melodic dubstep sounds that both Illenium and Excision are known for, the song explodes in depth and power. In songs like this, the vocals are generally meant to accentuate the melody and drums, and that’s what we have here. The secondary drop seems to have more of an Excision influence with how gritty it is. It’s incredibly fun to hear these two artists play off of each other’s strengths so well. The hype around this song’s release was clearly justified.

When we covered “Lost” off of Illenium’s most recent album, Awake, we made the strong recommendation to listen through the whole album. In case you haven’t, here’s another one of the amazing tracks off of it.

“Fractures”, featuring Nevve, was released about a year ago in earlier 2017 as one of the first singles off of the album prior to it’s full release later in 2017. The call and answer between the vocals and guitar melody line leading up to the chorus synths showcase Illenium’s talent in producing breathtaking melodic bass. This is Illenium at his best and is an absolute blast to hear performed live. If you haven’t heard it before, check it out. If you have, enjoy it again and again.
