Song of the Day: Kings of Summer – ayokay

Song of the Day: Kings of Summer – ayokay

While this song is a few years old and more of a summer jam than a mid-December Christmas song, it’s too good not to share and listen to if you’ve not yet heard it. “Kings of Summer” is the track that helped put ayokay on the map back in 2015 and he’s grown immensely in his production abilities since then.

I was lucky enough to see him open for Autograf and Gryffin a few months back and literally bumped into him in the crowd after his set. He’s an incredibly nice and humble guy, which is something you can almost feel come through in all of his songs.

Song of the Day: Weekend (Jai Wolf Remix) – Mocki

Song of the Day: Weekend (Jai Wolf Remix) – Mocki

Jai Wolf put together this remix back in 2015 but if you haven’t heard it, now’s your chance to take a listen because it’s, you know, the weekend.

This track defines vibe. The percussion is on point and the way the vocals are tweaked makes it a fun ride the whole way through. It’s certainly a song most people in their 20’s will understand and love.

Song of the Day: Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer – DMX

Song of the Day: Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer – DMX

Guys. It’s finally here. The track that will be known forever as the most classic Christmas song of all time. “All I Want For Christmas Is You” by Mariah? Move out of the way. “Blue Christmas” by Elvis? Step aside. “Santa Claus Is Coming To Town” by the Jackson Five? Good, but not as good as the new best Christmas song of all time (I’m not exaggerating).

DMX’s rendition of “Rudolph the Rednose Reindeer” is the new top dog.

After free-styling Rudolph back in this viral 2012 video, DMX has finally recorded a full track with an instrumental backing. It’s glorious. It’s not a particularly long take on the song, but it’s packed with DMX’s trademark enthusiastic call-outs like “C’mon!”, “What!”, and that low growl we all know and love.

No, DMX, you will go down in history.

So throw it on at your next Christmas party. Or maybe on the beach in July. No one will complain and if they do, they’re wrong.

P.S. I’m exaggerating a bit, but seriously tell me this isn’t awesome. Also, if you haven’t seen the jaw-dropping Reading Rainbow theme song/DMX mashup, well, here ya go.

Song of the Day: Clearest Blue (Gryffin Remix) – CHVRCHES

Song of the Day: Clearest Blue (Gryffin Remix) – CHVRCHES

I was lucky enough to see Gryffin perform this song in person awhile back and was one of the best songs of his set. A slow buildup in both rhythm and emotional culminates in a euphoric chorus that puts Gryffin’s melodic talents on display. If you ever get the chance to see Gryffin in person, I cannot recommend enough taking the opportunity. He puts on an amazing show and switches between live instruments while DJ’ing, which isn’t something many producers will do. It’s amazing to see. Enjoy this one!

Song of the Day: All My Love (Audien Remix) – Cash Cash ft. Conor Maynard

Song of the Day: All My Love (Audien Remix) – Cash Cash ft. Conor Maynard

Audien does a phenomenal job putting his spin on “All My Love” originally by Cash Cash. With beautiful plucky synths and a great bassline that stays out of the way of the vocals in the verse takes this remix to the next level. This is a great listen when you’re poolside or getting ready for a night out. And, as a bonus, you can download this song for free here.
