Song of the Day: The Shine – ayokay

Song of the Day: The Shine – ayokay

A 2017 release from ayokay, “The Shine” featuring vocals from Chelsea Cutler, is a bright, yet laid back song with soft synths and a bouncy chorus, much like “Kings of Summer”. The lyrics, which are posted below, speak to a what used to be a strong relationship fading away. Take a listen!

I tripped and fell into
A rhythm with you
I jumped off the deep end
But still played it cool

Tried to pretend we’re not different
And I hate that I have to admit it
But I’m done with wishing

I know it’s only a matter of time until the shine wears off
Cause I’m all out of words
Feel alone every time we touch
The more that I hold you
The more I don’t know your touch
I know it’s only a matter of time till the shine wears off

I know that we’re living
Inside of a dream
Cause we’re trying too hard
To make this a thing
Why does it feel like we’re working
You act like a whole different person
I’m tired of searching

I know it’s only a matter of time till the shine wears off
Cause I’m all out of words
Feel alone every time we touch
The more that I hold you
The more I don’t know your touch
I know it’s only a matter of time till the shine wears off

I’ll be fine
Knowing it’s over
Clearer eyes
Come with getting older
We fantasize
But we had our day
Now your disguise is fading
Your disguise is fading away

I know it’s only a matter of time until the shine wears off
Cause I’m all out of words
Feel alone every time we touch
The more that I hold you
The more I don’t know your touch
I know it’s only a matter of time until the shine wears off

Till the shine wears off
Feel alone anytime we touch
The more that I hold you
The more I don’t know your touch
I know it’s only a matter of time till the shine wears off

Song of the Day: Ocean – Seven Lions

Song of the Day: Ocean – Seven Lions

One of the most popular unreleased songs from Seven Lions‘ live sets, “Ocean”, is out now. The collaboration with Jason Ross, featuring vocals from Jonathan Mendelsohn, is exactly the euphoric melodic bass style we’ve come to expect and love from Seven Lions. This is the second release on the Ophelia Records label which Seven Lions founded by himself, following “Calling You Home”. “Ocean” was released alongside “The Sirens”, which is also included below.

These two tracks drastically contrast with each other while at the same time displaying the range of talents of both artists. “The Sirens” is inherently darker and more aggressive, featuring driving percussion at a higher tempo with a significant lack of melodic movement, as compared to the beautifully lyrical and moving “Ocean”.

Lyrics:

Here I’ll stay, waiting for the tide to turn
And sail away, all these breaking waves of hurt
I’ll try to leave behind this savage world
Maybe someday I’ll return
Patiently, you wait for me on the shore
Thinking time is all I need to give you more
But guarantees, I can’t give you no
‘Cause I’m a shipwreck sinking slowly

And promises they break
And I’m through making mistakes
Well, love’s done nothing but cut me up
And carry me away

So now I hide my heart
It’s buried somewhere deep at the bottom of the ocean
‘Cause I’ve been torn apart
And what I thought was love nearly left me broken
So now I hide my heart
Far beneath the waves at the bottom of the ocean
If only I could get to you
What’s swimming beneath the blue of this ocean

And promises they break
And I’m through making mistakes
Well, love’s done nothing but cut me up
And carry me away

So now I hide my heart
It’s buried somewhere deep at the bottom of the ocean
‘Cause I’ve been torn apart
And what I thought was love nearly left me broken
So now I hide my heart
Far beneath the waves at the bottom of the ocean
If only I could get to you
What’s swimming beneath the blue of this ocean

At the bottom of this ocean

Song of the Day: Remember – Youngr

Song of the Day: Remember – Youngr

We covered Youngr’s “Out Of My System” last year as it embodies how many, many 20-somethings feel. His new release, “Remember” has the same catchy, borderline 80’s style vibe to it with it’s moving bass line, guitar riffs, and chorus synths. It has a positive feel to it despite lyrics that could have been used by your favorite 2000’s emo band.
