Song of the Day: Sideways – Illenium & Nurko ft. Valerie Broussard

Song of the Day: Sideways – Illenium & Nurko ft. Valerie Broussard

Illenium’s new collaboration with Nurko is a heartfelt, wholesome track featuring beautiful vocals from Valerie Broussard. This song carries with it Illenium’s signature melodic bass sweeps and kicks through the chorus while also adding a quick electronic riff that complements perfectly. We really hope Illenium keeps this kind of energy going into his future tracks. Take a listen and check out the lyrics below as well.

Sideways Lyrics

Head on the dashboard
I can see that your heart is breaking
I wish, wish I could fast forward
Take all of your pain and erase it

Feet on the ground, feet on the ground
Even when we’re upside down
Around and around
But we’re never falling out

If the world is going sideways
I know my place is here with you
When all our good nights turn to dark days
I know I’ll stay next to you
When your hope’s gone, can barely hold on
When your sky is running out of blue
When the world is going sideways
I’ll be sideways
Sideways here with you

No, sideways here with you, no
When the world is going sideways
I’ll be sideways
Sideways here with you

Sideways here with you
No, sideways here with you, no
Sideways here with you

Don’t disappear
You know all of your bad news won’t be news to me
Echoes all I hear
Scared of finding nothing where you used to be

Feet on the ground, feet on the ground
Even when we’re upside down
Around and around
But we’re never falling out

If the world is going sideways
I know my place is here with you
When all our good nights turn to dark days
I know I’ll stay next to you
When your hope’s gone, can barely hold on
When your sky is running out of blue
When the world is going sideways
I’ll be sideways
Sideways here with you

No, sideways here with you, no
When the world is going sideways
I’ll be sideways
Sideways here with you

Sideways here with you
No, sideways here with you, no
Sideways here with you

No, sideways here with you, no

Song of the Day: Take You Down – Illenium

Song of the Day: Take You Down – Illenium

Illenium has been putting out new tracks consistently over the summer and recently debuted “Take You Down” at a festival just a few weeks ago with its official release today. This song is very personal to him as he wrote it about his previous heroin overdose and the impact that his addiction had on his family, in particular, his mother. He put out this statement with the track:

The most interesting part of this song is that the vocals are actually from his friend Tim James, pitched up making them sound like a woman’s voice.

Take You Down Lyrics:

I didn’t mean to hurt you when I hurt myself
It’s just an empty voice screaming out for help
No, I didn’t mean to scare you
But I couldn’t see
That when I went to hell I was taking you with me

When I close my eyes
I’m climbing in the dark
Trying not to fall apart
Sometimes I get so high
Falling is the only out I see
And I don’t wanna take you down with me

Yeah I’m loving my out
And you’re loving my out
Take you down
Take you down with me
(Down with me, down)
(Down with me, down)
(Take you) down with me

Down, you’re down with me
Down, you’re down with me

(Yeah I’m loving my out)
(And you’re loving my out)
(Take you down)

This life is like a razor
When it cuts I bleed
But it’s in my hand
And I’m doing it to me
Sometimes it’s like an ocean
And it gets too deep
And there’s no way that now you could rescue me

When I close my eyes
I’m fighting in the dark
Trying not to break your heart
Sometimes I get so high
Falling is the only out I see
And I don’t wanna take you down with me

You need to let it go now
Before you drown
I know that you won’t understand
But you need to let go of these hands
‘Cause I’m going down
And I don’t wanna take you down with me

And I don’t wanna take you down with me
Take you down, down with me

Song of the Day: Horizon – Seven Lions, Tritonal & Kill The Noise

Song of the Day: Horizon – Seven Lions, Tritonal & Kill The Noise

“Horizon”, a collaboration between Seven Lions, Tritonal, and Kill The Noise has been released and it is quite the interesting track. Listening through, it’s easy to pick out which act influenced each particular section. For example, the minimalistic breakdown after the first chorus seems to be where Kill The Noise put his stamp on the track as that’s neither a Seven Lions or Tritonal type sound. There seems to be less of a Tritonal influence on this song, given its melodic bass pace that is more true to Seven Lions, but we’re sure Tritonal made their impact melodically and with how the vocals by HALIENE are worked in. Take a listen!

Song of the Day: Ocean – Seven Lions

Song of the Day: Ocean – Seven Lions

One of the most popular unreleased songs from Seven Lions‘ live sets, “Ocean”, is out now. The collaboration with Jason Ross, featuring vocals from Jonathan Mendelsohn, is exactly the euphoric melodic bass style we’ve come to expect and love from Seven Lions. This is the second release on the Ophelia Records label which Seven Lions founded by himself, following “Calling You Home”. “Ocean” was released alongside “The Sirens”, which is also included below.

These two tracks drastically contrast with each other while at the same time displaying the range of talents of both artists. “The Sirens” is inherently darker and more aggressive, featuring driving percussion at a higher tempo with a significant lack of melodic movement, as compared to the beautifully lyrical and moving “Ocean”.

Lyrics:

Here I’ll stay, waiting for the tide to turn
And sail away, all these breaking waves of hurt
I’ll try to leave behind this savage world
Maybe someday I’ll return
Patiently, you wait for me on the shore
Thinking time is all I need to give you more
But guarantees, I can’t give you no
‘Cause I’m a shipwreck sinking slowly

And promises they break
And I’m through making mistakes
Well, love’s done nothing but cut me up
And carry me away

So now I hide my heart
It’s buried somewhere deep at the bottom of the ocean
‘Cause I’ve been torn apart
And what I thought was love nearly left me broken
So now I hide my heart
Far beneath the waves at the bottom of the ocean
If only I could get to you
What’s swimming beneath the blue of this ocean

And promises they break
And I’m through making mistakes
Well, love’s done nothing but cut me up
And carry me away

So now I hide my heart
It’s buried somewhere deep at the bottom of the ocean
‘Cause I’ve been torn apart
And what I thought was love nearly left me broken
So now I hide my heart
Far beneath the waves at the bottom of the ocean
If only I could get to you
What’s swimming beneath the blue of this ocean

At the bottom of this ocean

Song of the Day: Fractures – Illenium ft. Nevve

Song of the Day: Fractures – Illenium ft. Nevve

When we covered “Lost” off of Illenium’s most recent album, Awake, we made the strong recommendation to listen through the whole album. In case you haven’t, here’s another one of the amazing tracks off of it.

“Fractures”, featuring Nevve, was released about a year ago in earlier 2017 as one of the first singles off of the album prior to it’s full release later in 2017. The call and answer between the vocals and guitar melody line leading up to the chorus synths showcase Illenium’s talent in producing breathtaking melodic bass. This is Illenium at his best and is an absolute blast to hear performed live. If you haven’t heard it before, check it out. If you have, enjoy it again and again.
