One of the most popular unreleased songs from Seven Lions‘ live sets, “Ocean”, is out now. The collaboration with Jason Ross, featuring vocals from Jonathan Mendelsohn, is exactly the euphoric melodic bass style we’ve come to expect and love from Seven Lions. This is the second release on the Ophelia Records label which Seven Lions founded by himself, following “Calling You Home”. “Ocean” was released alongside “The Sirens”, which is also included below.
These two tracks drastically contrast with each other while at the same time displaying the range of talents of both artists. “The Sirens” is inherently darker and more aggressive, featuring driving percussion at a higher tempo with a significant lack of melodic movement, as compared to the beautifully lyrical and moving “Ocean”.
Lyrics:
Here I’ll stay, waiting for the tide to turn
And sail away, all these breaking waves of hurt
I’ll try to leave behind this savage world
Maybe someday I’ll return
Patiently, you wait for me on the shore
Thinking time is all I need to give you more
But guarantees, I can’t give you no
‘Cause I’m a shipwreck sinking slowly
And promises they break
And I’m through making mistakes
Well, love’s done nothing but cut me up
And carry me away
So now I hide my heart
It’s buried somewhere deep at the bottom of the ocean
‘Cause I’ve been torn apart
And what I thought was love nearly left me broken
So now I hide my heart
Far beneath the waves at the bottom of the ocean
If only I could get to you
What’s swimming beneath the blue of this ocean
And promises they break
And I’m through making mistakes
Well, love’s done nothing but cut me up
And carry me away
So now I hide my heart
It’s buried somewhere deep at the bottom of the ocean
‘Cause I’ve been torn apart
And what I thought was love nearly left me broken
So now I hide my heart
Far beneath the waves at the bottom of the ocean
If only I could get to you
What’s swimming beneath the blue of this ocean
At the bottom of this ocean
